Project Information

This is a loft bed that I built for one of my 3 kids. Guess what? Now I have two more to build ;). That's OK. It was a fun project. Went with stairs rather than a ladder because my kids inherited their clumsiness from their mother (he he…). For the desktop, I used an epoxy resin and am thrilled with the results. The picture of the desktop is after drying/curing but prior to assembly when it was still in my shop. Otherwise it is plain old stain and poly on pine.

Looks good, I've always liked that design of a bunkbed over a desk. Great use of space.

Ben, this is a good looking bed. These beds are not only great space savers but I have never seen a child yet that isn't thrilled to have one in their room. And I agree with you completely about the stairs. I feel they are much more kid friendly when compared to a ladder.

Great job, like the resin idea. I hear from the wife that something like this, is in my future.

I love it. You did a great job. One of these is most likely in my future.

Looks great. Stairs are a great idea.

What is that at the head of the bed?

That is a little shelf for an iPod dock/alarm clock. Last minute addition. I think in the next bed, I will make this a little easier on the eyes and more functional in terms of size.

Actually just went to your profile page and saw more of your shop. You mention it's small but looks like a great place to work in my opinion. Before you know it those cars will be parked outside and you will have taken over the whole garage. LOL

@Rex - Yeah, I hope so, but my wife has a different opinion and one that quite frankly wins 99% of the time. My shop is 26×17 currently with some extra space if necessary for assembly. I plan to build a shed this spring/summer to offload a bunch of stuff from my workspace like kids toys (amazing the kind of space those take up) and riding lawn mower.
