Project Information
I rent my summer cabin 4 weeks a yr, so I wanted a way to not box up the liquor & drag it to basement every year. My table is oak & I had 750' of pretty Peruvian walnut flooring strips I paid for but never used. So I found a plan for jelly cabinet & modified it.
I wanted the door to fit in a frame, not over it, so a tenant can't unscrew the hinge to see what's inside.
I made most of it at my Laconia NH woodworking class. Did door at home. Had problems with oak splitting along grain line after being clamped & glued,
I learned to never again put so many dowels in the door. Real bear of a time to clamp it together. There's like 8 on each side.
Original top was too thin after planing it down to remove v lines. This walnut is not dark, so I don't like it. Its not attached yet, so I may atrach 4 thicker strips to old top & try that.
I can lock it with a padlock since 1 handle is on door & other on the frame.
Decided my next project will be made of maple! It's smoother wood & carves, rather than splits.
