looks awesome but how do the plants hold up in the summer heat ? Is there some type of soil and moisture supply that I'm not seeing here ?

The wire mesh is what holds the soil in place and you can either water them or rain. It is a good idea to purchase plants that grow well in your climate. Google "living roof" and there is a list of web pages that talk about plants that do well in this environment.

Yes, I built these about three years ago. They did fine it is very important to plant the proper plants for you climate.
