Project Information

Finally getting around to posting this. I was doing a home project and redoing my fireplace, mantel, and back stone. I knew for this project I wanted a live edge slab of walnut and luckily I found this beautiful piece at Willard Brothers Woodcutters. The nice thing about this place is they plane their lumber/slabs so most of the work is done for you. The piece was 13ft long so I cut to the size I wanted and used the other piece for a small table. I just sanded it down with 60/120/220/320 and then went to work on it. I decided to fill in all the voids with epoxy resign and after some taping and multiple days a filling I was able to sand it down again. I then finished it off with multiple coats of Waterlox tung oil, let it dry for a week and then put it up in its resting place. -)

Thanks for looking.

It was my first time using epoxy in woodworking like this but I used West System Epoxy Kit. Very nice stuff and super easy to use with their pumps.
