Project Information

I had the opportunity to get a Lineberry factory cart about a month ago and decided to restore it to use as a coffee table. These carts were created around the turn of the century and most of them were abused daily after that so they can be rather rusted and beat up. I decided to take all of the metal grind off all of the rust and then repaint it all Rustoleum flat black. Most of the hardware was either trashed or broken when removed so I replaced all of the hardware with new hardware. I also chose to make all new wood, so the frame and top was replaced with red oak that was stained with Minwax Early American stain and the finished with polyurethane.

The first 2 pictures are of the finished cart , the third is of the frame finished with the hardware trial fitted and then the last picture is of what the cart looked like when I first got it. This project was a ton of fun and SWMBO is happy with her new coffee table. Thanks for looking.

Very nicely re-done.

It also had a lot of appeal before being re-done.

As long as it turned out the way you want it it is great!

That looks very nice. I've been wanting to do just such a project for a while now but every Lineberry cart I can find is to the point of falling apart and still priced between $400 & $600. Oh well, at least seeing yours helps satiate my desire until I can find a reasonably priced one for myself. Did you remake it to the original dimensions or did you alter them to fit a specific area?

Kept all the dimensions the same as the original, their frames are roughly 24" x 48" and the top is 27" x 48"

You replaced all the hardware and wood? What parts did you re-use?

Where did you find new hardware?

I replaced all of the hardware as in nuts and bolts, I reused all the original cast iron components.

We have half a dozen of these carts in use on our crating department shop floor, but none of them look even close to as nice as yours :^)

They are very rugged carts and can carry a LOT of weight.
