Project Information

I've made a few of the straight sided swirl bowls now, and thought it was time for a change. Went for a rounded shape bottom with a lid. It is 11" in dia. and 8" tall. This method takes a bit more wood, but I think it was worth it.

Next up on the drawing board is a completely round vase. By my calculations, it should take about 2.5 times as much wood.

A great design, quite complex for sure, the timber combinations add real eye appeal, well done

I guess I should add: The woods used to construct this bowl were: Peruvian Walnut, Purpleheart, Canarywood, Zebrawood, Wenge, Bubinga, Spectraply, and dyed Maple veneer.

Hi Dreggy,
While looking (oogling) at your photos I wondered if you used Spectraply and then I read that you did.
I absolutely love this piece, the combination of colours is outstanding and I can hardly wait to see the next one.
At least you will be able to use the "Extra" pieces left over from the round vase to make other swirly things.
The use of other woods to make up the lid for this piece is brilliant. Great idea.
Thank you for sharing this with us.
