Project Information

I got some poplar back in July and got it in the kiln. The other day I got the first piece out to see what it looked like and this is what I found. Really nice spalting and colors had formed. The lid is spalted sycamore I think it wasn't labeled so it might be something else and the finial is walnut. The finial is the bowl shape turned upside down.

There is some tear out on the end grain but it looks worse in the pics than it is. Finish is just clear stain for now I will shoot it with lacquer for a top coat.

4 1/2" tall including finial 4 3/4" wide

That is a really great looking bowl.
I love the effect of spalting, and this piece is a great example.

Tommy,
Great wood goes without saying, but it's really the shape that I find exceptional. The finial looks like the perfect match. Altogether, a remarkable piece.

Thanks guys I have two kilns full of stuff that is coming out with all kinds of spalting and color. There is at least one more kiln full still to be cut up. Several species. Makes it fun to turn to see what you get.
