Project Information

Always wanting to try this. It is super dangerous and only should be tried if you understand electricity .
I took all the safety precautions possible, because that device will kill you. I took a scrape piece of plywood and applied the solution liberally all over the board. I am very happy with results for first try, I played with different inlay colors to get ideas for future projects coming soon. I did use the more dangerous microwave transformer instead of a neon transformer. However both can and will kill you.

Nice. I don't know why these fractals are so intriguing, but I am always drawn to the look of them.

Meh. I can be hit by a bus stepping off my front porch in the morning. Live in the now. Make beauty. Be remembered.

Hey…your last sentence is incorrect. I chose the 12,000 volt neon sign transformer because its output is just 30mA. I had to find one on eBay. But it is safer. It feels sort of like when you put a 9v battery to your tongue to check if it is ok.

I rejected using a microwave transformer because its current output is lethal. Have read several warnings about them that told of people dying. Do wear heavy duty rubber gloves and stand on a rubber mat…and be careful.

If I were to start over, I'd try a starter for an oil burning heater. They're readily available online at a reasonable price.

And if I felt like spending $300 for a solid state one, made specifically for this kind of Lichtenberg figure wood burning, I'd get it from here:

(Actually, I spent nearly $200 for the neon sign transformer and a variac. Compared to the solid state one, the transformer and variac are very heavy and take up a lot more space.)
