Showcase cover image for Letter/ card box

Project Information

Made this box for my wife to keep letters and cards in.
Made out of walnut and birch. I wanted to to try few things I've seen. So the sides have dovetail splines and the top has dowls. My wife is not a much of a fan of these kinds of details and would rather have a simple box, to compromise I did a very dark stain so you can't really see the the dovetail splines. Wanted it to look more old and rustic than new and shiny.
Thanks fo looking.

Thanks Andre and I wish I could do dove tail. Haven't learned that one yet. I think dove tails look amazing. That's on the bucket list to learn though.

Well, not appreciating the details on this is you wife's loss, looks pretty darn good. Is it intended to be a lap desk?, or just for storage? Either way, it looks very nice, and very much like an old antique. Nice work.

Thanks Oldtool,
Yeah I agree her loss. But I had fun doing the details and learning them. It is just intended to be for storage. I wanted to give it a different twist, so you could use it for a lap desk. I saw one after I finished this that was for recopies. That added a piece at the bottom of the door so you could set the card there and read it to keep in place.
But thank you.

This one was very simple and easy. That's why I added the details. Hope you knock one out soon too and share pics of it here.

Fan, I like your work. The grain in the walnut is beautiful. I like rounding over top inside edges to make them more finger friendly. Just by way of sharing ideas, you might look here This is a good project and I like the idea of not having it look too new. Keep boxing and keep posting.
