My Shop, such as it is
18×15 basement shop. big pillar right in the middle of the shop. Here's the before pictures:

Major problem is the low ceiling height added to the heating ducts means I have to duck down when I walk through. May need to move around some ducts.

Did a layout using qcad of how I want the basement organized.

Added wood storage.

Just starting to get my shop tools.

Built tables for router and miter saw.

Made a really basic workbench, too. Didn't even attach the top yet. It's 3/4 in ply with 1/4 hardboard. It's so heavy it doesn't move and I clamp stuff to it anyway.

Buddy is going to give me a bandsaw. Here's my new drill press and table.

Looking good. You have already transformed it into a cool space. You need a minifrdge and a tv and you are set!

Amazing to me since I just started in Feb of this year! The miter saw was in my foyer for months before we got the space cleaned up in the basement.

I do have a minifridge on the other half of the basement and a bathroom. too. The cable TV lines go through there…

Not sure beer and power tools go well together :)

When beer is involved I do stick to the rules…hand tools it is. The drinking bone is connected to the hand plane bone

Doug, your shop is coming along nicely. You have added some sturdy, functional tool stands/benches to your shop that should be a big help.

Thanks for the tour. I am looking forward to seeing additional updates to your shop.

Thanks, Scott. This site has some great folks on it who are very supportive of new woodworkers.

My Doctor told me watching TV is not a good hobby, but woodworking is. Thinking about what to do when I retire (15 years away). Think this could be a great one. Plus my 15-yr old son is really good at woodworking and we have something we can do together.

This is a nice start! At least you got the basement cleaned out and can put some tools down there! I keep trying to get organized myself but alas organization is not my forte!

I like your progress so far. I must admit to feeling very claustrophobic just looking at those pics. What's the headroom in there under those ducts?

FWIW, I started out with a Vermont American version of that "drill press" You will appreciate a real drill press more than you'd know…

Doug, I for one would love to have that space. My shop is the carport behind my Apt. so all the tools live in the Apt. which is a pain.
Just wondering if you could replace the existing ductwork with the flatter oval shaped ductwork to gain some headroom.
Enjoy getting the shop up and running and try to spend some good time with the son there.

Your getting there, good strategic move building benchs as you go. I didnt do that and now that have most of the large tools I want, I don't think I have room for any benches LOL Nah I'll shoe horn them in
