Project Information

I have been carving bowls, that resemble spoons for a while, but this is the first bowl that is in the shape of a leaf. It was carved from a piece of Quilted Maple from Oregon. I used a number of power tools for these bowls. After cutting out the basic shape with the band saw, I set the depth of cut with a drill press and Fostner bits, followed by a angle grinder and Foredom tool. Sanding was accomplished with a drill gun, and various disks and drums. It is approximately 12" long, 5" wide, and 2" high. It is finished with a salad bowl finish.

These carved bowls have given me a great deal of satisfaction, and I plan on many more.

Thanks for looking, Jim

Very well done and beautiful too Jim. I have often thought that it's a shame there aren't more woodworkers doing this kind of work. Some in Norway are still carving bowls, but not that many. There are so many opportunities for interesting shaped designs, large and small. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your fine work.
