Project Information

A friend of mine wanted a nice wooden tray to replace her old cardboard box she used to take meals to friends and potlucks. So this simple design is what we came up with. It is 28" x 20" x 5", is made from red oak, with walnut splines. Its a little heavy, but should last her many, many, many years longer than her cardboard box did. I just got an HVLP gun and this is the first project I've finished using the gun. Finish is CAB-acrylic laquer from Sherwin-Williams. I gotta say, I love this finish.

Kade, I'm working on a similar tray with sides that are flared out a bit further. Can you share how you did the splines with the compound angles corners? The piece looks very nicely done. Thanks Pat

Pat, my photography must be deceiving you. The sides of this tray are square 90 degree angles. Sorry I can't help with compound angles.

I was afraid of that. Must have been that fish eye effect.
