Project Information

Nothing earth shattering here. Today I made a picnic table for my nephew's camp. His old one was ready for the fire. It's 8 feet long and fairly wide. I decided to cap the ends and round them over so it would look better. Underneath is a bolted on set of angles I welded up. When the pole for the umbrella is set in the hole on top of the table the metal tube holds the pipe so no weighted base is needed. The legs also have a pad of pressure treated lumber to help with the water when it rains. It was delivered and the owner will apply a finish of choice.
Materials are spruce (framing lumber), galvanized carriage bolts, and star head self drilling deck screws. All in all a short, fun build. My first picnic table.

Nice table! The end pieces really 'spruce' it up - never thought of those myself. I need to make one of these for our place - the one I had finally died last year. I bought it in 1974 when stationed in the Azores, took it with me to everywhere else I was stationed until I retired and it has been here in Maine since. Guess I got my money's worth out of it! It was made of redwood but don't think this next one will be.

Nice looking table and it does look real big, what is the actual size? How many will it sit? Thanks for sharing.

It's 8 ft x 38" wide. It will sit a bunch? I'm not sure 5 across comfortably maybe.
