Large Dutch Tool Chest. Plan by Chris Schwarz from Popular Woodworking. Solid clear pine with cherry battens, dividers, and accents. Built using dovetails and dadoes, Titebond, and stainless screws. Back is tongue and groove solid pine affixed with screws. Hardware from Lee Valley. Finish: General Finishes Water Based Milk Paint Coastal Blue with topcoats of General Finishes Flat Out Flat.
I work out of a tool chest instead of a tool cabinet on the wall. The tool chest lid folds down. The tools on the lid are affixed with magnets. I like the Dutch tool chest design because it holds tools in a convenient way and takes up less floor space than an English style tool chest. You put the most frequently used tools in the top or on the inside lid for easy access and less frequently used tools in the lower compartments. Adding a separate cart with casters for the tool chest to rest on as I have done makes it even more convenient to use.
