Project Information

This is another "reproduction" of an LJ project. The original by kdc68 is is here. I really think his idea of mixing the laminations with the box joints was pretty brilliant.

My only innovation was to add some walnut splines into the mitered corners of the lid.

Maple and walnut; finished with natural Danish Oil topped with some wipe on poly.

Thanks to kdc68 for the inspiration. Will be following your work to see what to copy next!

Nice box. Better photography I think. I saw the previous version, and it was nice, yours just seems to POP more. The 2 tailed finger joints look much more differentiated, and interior elements seem crisper, but again I think that is photography maybe?

Not sure what you mean, looks like copies, just as I said the colors of your pics make the difference jump out more.

Some of the difference is the base wood, your Maple is much lighter colored than the Birch, but I think both have the same elements. 2 nice boxes, just a bit different.

Unclear,

Really nice work, and equally nice tribute to kdc68. Truth is I saved his original and cut and pasted a photo of his work to my pc. I hope to make one using those ideas in the future.

Thanks everyone. Luckily picture resolutions aren't that high, so you can't see all the mistakes.

Not sure what you mean, .........
I just meant the splines on the mitered joints of the lid, like a picture frame. Can see it a bit in the last picture.

I just seen this. I guess I missed it when you posted it.
Box looks great ! I do like the curve at the base.
The picture quality is better than mine. I need to look into that.
I appreciate the mention and it is certainly a good feeling to be an inspiration to another woodworker.
