Showcase cover image for Kreg Pocket-hole Jig Base plus Storage

Project Information

Well, Santa brought me a new Kreg Jig Master System. I've been wanting to get my hands on one of these for quite some time. The first thing I wanted to do was build a base for this thing. I checked LJ and also the Kreg web site. I found an example on the Kreg site that that most suited my needs. (Gotta join the site) I made some mods to the design involving the material stops. The stop that comes with the Master system is a bit cheesy if you ask me. Plus you only get one. So I added the runners on either side of the jig that both provide a flush platform for wide stock and has a T-slot with a stop block on each side of the jig. Took me all of an hour, from standing start to finish, to put this together with pocket holes. Nice. I put 0.75" hole on each side that fits over bench dogs so I can clamp this thing down using my bench tail vise. Can't wait to find some other good pocket hole projects. I'll be checking LJ.

now you know the shocking truth of the kreg system and why it belongs in fine woodworking IMHO . it is true the shakers used up to date tools on everything they made they would have loved the kreg jig. I would give up so many of my prized tools before i would give up my kreg jig master system .

Nice. I've been looking for something that would work with my Kreg System. What are your overall dimensions? Have to be able to store it in my cabinets! Good job and thanks for the inspiration.

This is such a great tool.
I like the idea of having the jig and the storage all together.
I built a storage compartment for mine as well.
I like the runners with the t slot. It's giving me something to think about.
Good job.

Thanks for all the encouraging comments.
Cranesgonewild, I did see your project and liked it. The main reason I went with this design was I didn't have the piano hinge (or any other small set of hinges). It was Xmas day, nothng was open and I was in a hurry to BUILD SOMETHING. The dimensions of the base are 28×11 x 0.75. Regarding storage, I chose to hang it on the wall.

I got the Same system but haven't made a storage box for it. Very nice and thanks for pointing out all the improvements. I need to build something like that.

I just have mine fastened to a piece of plywood that's probably about 10" x 16". It all fits in one of my drawers along with all of the other Kreg stuff except for the screws. When ever I need it I just pull it out and clamp it to a table with c clamps. You did a nice job on that.

Great setup. I see your jig was made with pocket holes. I bet it would have been nice to have the jig to make the jig… but if you had it then you would not need to make it… I've gone cross-eyed. LOL

Nice jig, but you may find that you need wider supports, depending on what you use it for.

Chris, thanks for the comment. I've had this thing for a year now and don't know how I ever lived without it. I use it regularly. A great jig.

Don, you may be right. The support rail is almost 1.5" wide. So far I've not found the need to use pocket holes on any stock thicker than that. But, you never know. However, if this does become a problem the fix is simple since the rails are simply screwed on. Easily replaced.

I think you've set some sort of speed record with this build. Well done.
