Showcase cover image for Knotty Pine Hutch

Project Information

This was a request by my wife's aunt. She found a magazine with this on the cover and wanted it in their new addition. We used the magazine for the basic idea and modified it to fit their room/taste. It's Knotty Pine with a shellac seal coat and 3 coats of poly as a top coat with the exception of the inside of the cabinet and drawers which have 3 coats of shellac only. It's two pieces, the base cabinet and the top book case, which were assembled on site. The doors and drawers all have Blum hardware with the soft-close feature (very nice!!) which I will now be using on all the projects for our home from here on out. She was also concerned about losing an outlet in the corner of the room so I suggested moving it to the inside of the cabinet which ended up working out perfect. I ran a power line from the outlet to the top of the cabinet just in case, as well as speaker wire so she could have the stereo in the base cabinet and have the speakers on top. I also used rope lighting as accent lighting for the top which looks very nice. This was a pretty fun one.

Beautiful hutch!! Where did you find the knotty pine boards? I have a customer who wants me to build some knotty pine furniture. I have been searching for knotty pine boards to purchase. I have only found paneling and floor wood for sale in knotty pine.

I got it from a local guy in town that has a mill and does a bunch of pine from time to time. Better prices buying it that way, too.
