Project Information

I built this about 6 or 7 years ago. It blends in with the rest of the kitchen. I used piano hinges on the front panel and on the lid. the plastic bags are held in place by 4 springs located around the top inside permenter that have been laced Thur small wooden bobbins. This causes pressure on the bobbins allowing the bag to stay in place.
The front tips forward on a friction pivot hinge, to allow for easy bag removal.
The stain is natural and the finish is sprayed lacquer.

My 16 year old grandson calls it the nicest trash can in town.

God bless

Well, Gene, thanks for the info. I need to build one of these and now I have another idea. And a good one too.

I've been looking for some time for something just like this. Is it solid wood or plywood and what is it 3/4 or 1/2". Looks great and I like to two way to entry. Great creativity.

Thanks for the nice compliments. It is 3/4" solid wood except for the back. The back is 1/2" birch plywood and is recessed slightly to aid in mounting flush to the wall . Take note that the bottom on the inside is higher than the outside causing a dead space. Were I to build another, I would make that another door to use as storage for kitchen trash bag boxes. You really need to put multiple coats of finish on the inside to seal against contamination and ease of cleaning.
God bless

Just what I am looking for. Do you have any photos of the springs that hold the bag? I don't quite understand the explanation.
Great idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!
