Project Information

I built this kitchen stand for my wife after we reconfigured our kitchen to take out some peninsula cabinets. The legs were built from 12/4 maple. The rest of the base is made from 5/4 poplar. The top is from some 6/4 hickory. She picked through every piece of hickory they had at the hardwood supplier until she found the grain patterns she wanted.

Looks nice. Did you have any issues matching the paint on the maple and poplar?

Would love to see more pictures of the top.

Thanks! I got around the paint matching issues by priming first with two coats of a shellac-based primer. I followed that up with two coats of the paint she selected.

You can see the top a little better in this picture. This was from before I did a matching hickory trim around the counter top. The stark contrast of the hickory is pretty clear in this image.

nice clean piece. I have been wanting to try one of these! The wood grain your wife chose is excellent. I like this project a lot. Well done.
