Despite my pleas to my wife to take over our 2 car garage where we park our cars, I will not complain about my dedicated 1-car garage for my shop. The garage is attached to the house, but feels pretty detached. Directly above my shop is our media room (not used that often without me) so fortunately I will usually not disturb anyone in the house when I'm making noise in the shop. There is a nice big driveway in front of the garage so I can expand my working space if need be as well. My main workbench I placed on casters for the times I want to roll it out and work outside.

I've been acquiring a good assortment of tools over the past couple of years and have built a good collection to where I can take on just about any project. I'm still finding that niche of a certain area or project that I want to focus in on. I've built everything from outdoor furniture to a pool cue rack, mainly just trying to learn with each project and improve my woodworking skills.

I do not usually keep a supply of wood on hand because 1) I do not have enough room to store it, and 2) I usually only purchase wood for a specific project. Because of my limited space, I've really focused on making every bit of space count and still have enough room to work comfortably. I do not have a central dust collection system setup but do have dedicated dust collection for my table saw and combination belt/disc sander. I've resorted to using 3 powerful shop fans that take care of a majority of the dust and blow it out of the shop. Every now and then, I just take a blower and blow everything out.

I like the way you make soo much space out of a small room. Very neat. Please explain what appears to be a box around the bandsaw table with a new slick surface on the top. Thanks

Thanks. I've experimented with different layouts and have attempted to maximize space as much as possible. The box around the bandsaw is little addition I made to give me a bigger work surface. I went from 16×16 to roughly 24×24 or so. The top is a thin piece of melamine. I "trimmed" the edge of the bandsaw cast iron table with 3/4" ply and bolted it on to the sides, the thin piece of melamine sits flush on the table and is secured to the plywood. Gives me a nice big smooth surface when I'm using the bandsaw. It was a quick addition I made a while back. I'll probably swap it out with a thicker piece of melamine at some point but for now it works great.

How can you have work tables with nothing on them?? Mine are always cluttered no matter how hard I try to keep them clean. Nicely organized…......

Redryder, they certainly do not always looks that clean, I had just cleaned the shop before I snapped those pictures.

Thanks Jim for the welcome - I'm sure I'll be learning lots and picking up some great ideas for projects along the way.

I really enjoyed looking at this shop. Although it's small (like my shop), it's very cozy and well laid out. I'm happy to see you didn't skimp on the assembly table (something that I don't have). I like how it's detached but not detached; I bet it's very quiet in the house with all that brick surrounding you. Very nice.

Wow! Very nice shop. I really like the layout. It looks like a similar amount of space to the area I'll have in my basement for setting up shop. Thanks for sharing!
