Project Information

This is one of my keepsake box I made over the holidays as Christmas presents. It's basically the same design as the one made by the Wood Whisperer. I was able to crank out 3 of these as I was new to cutting the dovetail slots, so that slowed me down, along with some unexpected, and severe, wood movement on the lid. It seems they stay flat in room temperature, so that's good. This one is made of Padauk (base, key, and corners) and I believe the lid is some form of walnut; honestly, I can't recall. I do recall the lid stinking a good bit though until the finish went on. This particular piece is somewhat unique in that I originally finished the base and the lid with Arm-R-Seal. That was a BAD idea as it was completely tacky even after 2 days. I had to sand the finish off the base and use polycrylic, which worked out very well and recoat times were so much better. The lid, on the other hand, was tacky, but not nearly as bad, so I decided to let it dry indoors where temp and humidity was controlled; sure enough, the lid dried eventually, so that is finished with 3 coats of Arm-R-Seal. I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions. I'm about to make another 5 more starting this weekend. Thanks for looking!

This is very cool in many ways. I really like the sequence in order to open it. Nice wood combos also.
