Project Information

I thought I'd make some Christmas Keepsake boxes for a few women in my life, so here they are. The boxes measure 6 1/2" square by about 4" tall. They are made of Red Oak with the center piece made of quarter-sawn Oak. The center piece has a laser engraved heart in the center of the lid. I wanted something special for the box. My wife suggested using red felt for the bottom of the box. The boxes has Minwax oak stain on them and finished with a couple of coats of lacquer on them. It took a lot of clamp to hold the boxes together during glue up and other various stages of the assembly. I finished the boxes with my usual own stamp, a penny with the current year it was made. Thanks for looking.

I've looked at CNC's but never the laser engravers. What kind did you use, and is that a free stock design? Or something you did yourself?

The engravings make for a nice way to dress up a box.

TherealSteveN, I've got an Eleksmaker laser engraver. It only cost about $200 and it came from China. Assembly was simple but the computer program was miserable. You have to be a computer wizard to download the program as the machine didn't come with a manual or program. The design came from google. I just looked for "heart" on google and saved what I liked as a JPG. Then, went from there. I hope that helps. Oh and thanks for the compliment.

I love the mass production approach you take, plenty of leg stock there 8^)

Nice design, catchy area to put what ever design you choose. I wish my clamps could breed like yours, looks like they are having at it!

Don,

Stellar job on the keepsake boxes…..Looks like you were in your usual form of great projects…..!! The ladies in your life are going to really like them, I can tell…..!! The design is top-notch, and the laser engraving is stellar, too.

As like everyone, I enjoy making Christmas gifts for friends and family, but not this year….Maybe next year….!!

Splintergroup, Thanks for the compliments. I pick up clamps whenever I see them at estate sales. I use them all the time.
