Project Information

I actually enjoy it when the wife says, "Honey, do you think you could make…" because that means I get to spend the weekend in the shop and might even get cookies and beer delivered on occasion. This weekend it was a K-Cup holder for Keurig coffee makers. The machine is on the gift list for my stepdaughter, Jackie, but we needed something else for a shower gift. Since they love country music and live in Nashville, I thought up this little gem that should look right at home in their new kitchen.

Material is 3/4" cherry, cut from the same batch that her recipe box was made with. There are a few mineral veins and a couple worm holes, which make this an awesome piece of cherry. It was also the only nice piece of solid scrap that was over 8" wide. The holes are from a 1 3/4" forstner bit. I found the guitar shape online, printed the template, cut with my jigsaw, smoothed edges with the belt sander, then rounded the sides (front and back) with a 1/4" roundover. I laid out the cups so they looked nice and all fit and marked the holes for drilling. I also rounded the holes on the back side only because there was a little tear-out. DO NOT round the holes on the front side! At 1 3/4", the holes hold the cups perfectly and about 1/8" proud of the face. If you round over the edges of the holes on front, the cups fit flush and are tricky to pull out easily. The back has a tapered foot with a couple pocket screws in the bottom. No stain, just clear gloss poly and some steel wool. These pics were taken before all the coats were on and smooth. Came out better than I expected.

Where did you get the template for this? I'm looking to make one of these and I'm new to wood working.
