Project Information

Since we've been working on the 56' schooner I've realized that I did not enjoy carrying several different tool bags/boxes up and down the ladder just to use a select few tools. Depending on the day, I may not use certain tools. So, I decided to make a tool tray that I can load or unload easy each day. As we have a large selection of Sapele off cuts laying around the boat shop, the choice for material was easy. I joined all the pieces with box joints and then secured them with copper rim shank nails. It works great, and has certainly made my trip up and down the ladder much easier.

Do you have one of those Irish fiddle reels in the background like Roy Underhill does whenever he carries his?

This project is extremely practical, looks excellent, and is one of those items your grandkids will brag about. Very cool!!

Nice tote and nice selection of wood!

I made one very similar to yours, but my problem is I rarely use it any more: I don't have to go much further than my shop to find the work that I do.
