Project Information

This was a commissioned piece for my Boss' wife. I traded for tools at the used tool store I work at. The tray lifts out or slides back and forth. The two rows with slots are for hanging earrings. It is Fiddleback Maple and Cherry with box joints made with my new (first try) Incra router table fence. It is lined with soft suede.

Nice work Blake! Can't go wrong with that maple/cherry combo - just love it!

What tools did you add to your shop?

Nice. I like the look of the suede (and the box overall).

Very cool, it appears your box joint jig does something mine doesn't, or at least something i don't know how to do. The spacing…I like it.

The box joint was made with my new Incra router table fence. I plan to start a blog on the Incra system because since I have discovered it I am in love. It is the best addition to my shop since walls and a ceiling. I used to be such a snob about the Incra stuff. I would see it at woodworking shows and turn my nose up. It seemed unnecessarily fancy. But I have been converted, I am sorry to say.

Love the box. Really a bunch! I am solidly in the Incra fence camp. Once you figure out how to index to the bit edge and center there is nothing like the precision and versatility it provide. I want to welcome you here. I can tell you will be showing some gorgeous work here.

This beaut was posted almost 24 hours ago and no comment from Don? Has anybody checked to see if he's ok? Really terrific piece Blake. Just beautiful.

Thanks,
This was the first project I posted but it is actually my most recent "full-sized" (for me) project. I have been posting other older projects and jigs. I have more of this wood and now that my new router table is completed I plan to make another one of these.

Missed it before Blake. A great job. I've got an Incra but I use it mostly for a fence on my router and table saw.

I missed the box when you released it originally - I just found the link in the Valet. Very nice attention to detail, I especially like the inlayed mirror in the lid.

Very nice work Blake. How did you make that thumb divot on the front of the box under the lid?

Good question Rikkor... its very easy: I just tilt the edge of the box (at an angle) against a drum sander chucked into my drill press until it is the desired depth and look. No jig required, I just draw a small mark at the center and hold it against the sanding drum by hand.

Well, that is simple enough to rate a "DUH" from me. Thanks Blake.
