Project Information

Hello Everyone, As you Can see, I am new to thsi forum. I am relatively young but enjoy woodworking immensly. Here is a box I made for my girlfriend. The sides are rabbeted and the visible rabbet seam was dadoed to include an Zebra Wood inlay of sorts. The top of the lid was CO2 laser etched and the bottom contians an inlaid mirror. The box and tray bottoms were lined with leather and the box is lockable. I added black to the tray sides for coem contrast. More Projects to come :) Hope everyone enjoys.

Crista is one lucky lady. I'm sure she loves this as much as me, because I just love small wooden boxes. BMP, I've yet to make a box with a lock. I've often intended to do so, but haven't yet got around to it.

Nice work, and welcome to LJ's.

Welcome to LumberJocks. You appear to be a very talented young woodworker, with a long and bright future ahead of you. Your box is beautiful and should have made Crista very happy.

Sweet box! I like all of it, but the inlayed name really bowls me over. How'd you do that? Inlay set, chisel and nerves of steel? Details would be appreciated.
Oh, BTW, welcome to Lumberjocks!

Douglas, Thanks for the kind comments; however, as much as I wold liek to claim that the top is inlaid, it was rather etched by a CO2 laser. The laser prosess was repeated several times to darken and deepen the letters. I have since learned a new technique in which I use gold paint to fill the letters, plain a few hundredths off to get crisp letters again, and then fill the letters using clear epoxy. Thanks everyone!
