very nice, clean looking project. really like the wood choice. I'm with the others on the third pic. I vote for a coffee table.

looks nice. Jatoba is a great wood and holds up well. You will find some darkening if you don''t use a good UV protection in the finish.

Nice work

Hi,

sorry to cause some confusion. I guess I felt lazy yesterday and didn't explain all the pictures I posted. Must be all the food I ate over the holidays!

In the picture is a coffee table to match the sofa set. It's to be used a storage for DVDs. They fit under the top standing up.

Thanks for your interest.

Marc, this is a really nice piece of furniture. Is the floor brazillian cherry as well? Sometimes it is a little difficult to determine coloring with photos but it looks pretty close to me. I am sure that you found bc to be hard on your saw blades, I know that I have. I enjoy working with it but always make sure I have a sharp blade handy.

How did you finish this piece?

Nice post.

Hi Scott,

The flooring is not brazilian cherry: it is a laminate flooring. These sofas were installed in a basement. You're right about brazilian cherry being hard on blades. I had to get them sharpened immediately after these projects, they were very dull. The finish for the sofa on the right (the one with a rug in the picture) is four coats of tung oil and brown paste wax. The other and the coffee table is finished with circa 1850 paste varnish and paste wax. I'll never use that varnish again: I didn't like it at all, it's so sticky it leaves streaks and marks.

Thanks for the comments
