Project Information

My wife saw a similar item at a craft show that was an inexpensive cubby with a piece of plywood on top that was covered with ironing board material. I knew I could make it and spend at least twice as much… The finished project had a top which could be used for ironing in her sewing room and have some storage for her sewing accessories. This is made of maple ply and solid maple for the drawers and trim. I show a picture of how the sliding shelf was made. I made the actual sliding shelf from ply with dado to create the tongue on each side. The slides on each side were made of solid wood. The shelf slides OK but would have been better if the tongue was solid wood also, I was concerned about expansion, since the tolerances were pretty tight. Overall happy to make something for this woman who gives so much to others.

You did a nice job on this cabinet and it's a fine addition to your sewing room. Congratulations and welcome to Lumberjocks.

Bless you, you think just like I do.

Awesome piece, also maybe a steal for the guy to give the wife that already has everything for her sewing hobby.
