Project Information

I am at the beginning of a project to build an 1870's Iron Horse train, wood tender and passenger car on a bridge . I built the bridge first so I can set the model against it as I go. This helps make sure the measurements are correct as I go along. The main body is laminated together using Tasmanian Blackwood and Victorian Ash. The steam and sad domes are Purple Heart and Victorian Ash.

Yes I know this is my first post, but I came this way from the shopsmith forums. Anyway, it looks like you are building a cherry tree Iron Horse 440?

I built one my senior year in high school. Took way more hours than I thought it would. If you are building the same one and the plans haven't been updated, be careful with the measurements. The piece you are building currently or pictured here was short by an inch for what it should have been if memory serves correctly (been 11 years). As well you will need to cut out a section on each side of the main boiler in the back for the wheels to fit. Please keep posting pictures. The project looks good so far.

Hi thanks for you picture and advice. It would certainly looks like the same project but I got my designs from Forest Street Designs and is just named "The Iron Horse" .
yours looks fantastic, to have such skill at a young age is truly a gift. -treasure it. Those around you will.

The exploded view of the plans behind your piece are the same for sure. It seems the rings on the train boiler may be a bit different, or maybe I didn't do it the same :)

Anyway, good luck on the project. I started to count down when I hit 100 pieces left. That was 7 months in…..

I probably will be counting too, might be worse though as I have 30 years on you and I am doing a video journey on the youtube channel as well.. Love to see more of your projects as well.

I will gladly post a few up when the forum allows me. At the moment it says you may not post a project until your first post is approved. So I am patiently waiting :) Here is another picture of the train for your reference. Maybe an angle the 2D plans don't show.
