Project Information

"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." I don't know where I've been my whole life, but I had never seen a piece of Sam Maloof"s furniture until recently. I saw Joe Davis's Maloof Rocker about 6 months ago on this site, and was immediately taken by it's beautiful lines and form. I read Sam's autobiography and decided to try a Lowback. I purchased Scott Morrison's DVD and plans. It has been a great experience. I'd like to thank Paul of Canadian Woodworks and Antti for sharing their knowledge and experiences. I bought some Liogier rasps, and they are excellent.
I'd like to make a general comment now. Whatever type of woodworking appeals to you, the help and information you can find here is invaluable. Again a big thanks for the collective wisdom being shared here. Onward in whatever you choose to pursue.

You watched the video and did this? Wow! I think most all of us admire the Maloof style of design and the craftsmanship required to actually "imitate" it. This looks like you did your research and sure paid attention to the details; very nice job on this challenging project.

Amen to your commentary.

I think Sam would smile at your creation. Don't stop now!

Wow. Nice work Rod. Beautiful lines…you have an eye for detail. It looks as good as anything that has come out of my workshop. You should be very proud of your accomplishment.

congratulations on a great piece! I put mine in our living room, and our guests stop and comment it unsolicited every time. you should do the same; put this beauty somewhere it can be seen (and touched - people seem to want to do that…)!
