This looks like a fun project to tackle, especially when you just need to complete something fairly quickly. This is a good time of the year to be building these as well since candle holder always make good Christmas gifts.

I like how the candles are offset from each other - I would not have thought of doing that!

Great job!

I normally tend to like candle holders that have an odd number of candles, but this one is different. It's very balanced and sort of seems like there's a mirrored image thing going on here.

These are always a great scrap wood project and you've done well here. Now that I've got a running BS, I'm going to have to start introducing curves into some of my candleholders and boards like you've done here.

The curves seem to be quite consistent, so my question is, did you freehand them, or draw them on nicely ahead of time, then cut the line?

Jonathan,

I draw on side a line on freehand, cut it out and lay the part I cut of on the
other side.

Houtje, did you just stain the thin pieces darker before gluing them together or are they a different species?
I like the offset as well Bob and I think its because it follows the curve in the project?? Pat

Houtje, this is so unusual and very beautiful. I especially like the contrast of the two different woods.

The dark strips are a diffrent kind of wood. And African wood called Tali.
Rip them on the bandsaw and glue them together.

Did you have to soak the wood to make it bend or was it thin enough to glue without it? Sorry for the beginner questions but I'm trying to learn from others experience and not by trail and error. Pat

No I didn't soak the wood. It was thin anough to bend it.
I clamped it between the vice than you have more power.
