Project Information
It's been a while sense my last project post because this one took a while to finish making the pattern and making two pieces from it. I found a picture on the internet and really liked it, so I went to work on a pattern. When I had it made I started thinking, that I always make a piece and put it on our walls at the house. Then end up giving, donating, or selling the piece. I usually don't enjoy making a piece over and over because after I've made it once the challenge is over and I'm already thinking of the next one. So I think to myself that I will make two pieces at the same time and keep one for the house. But again (to my own downfall), I start thinking I will invert the wood choices to make it a little more fun and play with the colors. As it turns out, after getting both pieces done they look so good as a set I don't think I can split them up. I'm in the same boat as always sitting here with blank spaces on our walls, go figure? Please let me know if you agree to keep them together or split them up? Just to give you one more thing to think about is I have already changed the original pattern so I can make one facing the other way. That way the firebirds would facing each other???
Without getting too artsy, while making these pieces I kept thinking of the concept of humanity surrounded by the beauty of nature and heritage. Then you invert the colors, it could make a statement about all cultures being in the same situation when you really look at the big picture.
It has some similar characteristics to my last piece, but if anyone has any suggestions to the origin or culture that the original art came from I would love to hear it. All of your suggestions about different cultural art forms from my last piece have given me enough ideas for new projects to last me for quite some time. I'm always looking for more.
These pieces are made from aspen, lacewood, cocobolo, cherry, yellow heart, bloodwood, and purple heart (No stain or coloring). They are about 14×8 each. I'm having a lot problems finding more aspen, so if anyone has a good source please let me know.
