Project Information
My mother was wanting an end table to go between two recliners in my parents house. The problem is that she needed it to be big, cause she didn't want to have to move the chairs closer together. I suppose because my father passes gas like a semi on it's engine brakes going down hill..lol Anyway, this thing is solid walnut with red oak pins holding the slats in. I don't have it here anymore to measure it, but I know it's nearly 3 feet wide when the sides are up. The extensions were not really planned out too well and I ended up having to get creative to hold them up. The little piece in the 3rd pic is dado'd to fit the slats, so that when the side are needed, you just pop the piece in and lock it to a slat. Works pretty well. Whole thing got several coats of high gloss poly and is easily the heaviest end table I've ever built. And finishing those slats is not something I plan on doing again anytime soon.
