I have built many shadow boxes over the years but this is the largest one I have built to date. The base is 48" wide and the overall height is 51". The yellow thing you see on the right side of the shadow box is a yardstick I placed in the picture for reference. This sailor started out as an enlisted man, worked his way up through the ranks to Chief Petty Officer. From there he was accepted into the Limited Duty Officer (LDO) program and worked his way up to Commander. Very impressive career. His last job in the Navy was Chief Engineer on a Large Deck Amphibious Ship here in San Diego. It is a bit hard to see but the laser engraved item located in the top of the center bay is an actual piece of glass from the view port of an old boiler on a ship. The shadow box is made from cherry wood, stained red mahogany and finished with clear lacquer.
