Project Information

As I've posted previously, there is a furniture shop about a block from my house that leaves it's cut-offs out for who ever wants them.

The question I got from my wife tonight was: "Don't you have enough"?

She was asking because I had just announced that I was going to head over and see what was available since it hasn't rained for the past couple days.

My answer was simple, it was "No"

I mean really who says no to 35 pieces of 1/2" Baltic Birch plywood all cut to 10" x 18"??
no one, that's who!
and the best part, those 35 pieces are not all I got!!

FOR FREE!!

I really have no excuses when it comes to building jigs anymore…

Your wife is absolutely right. I will send my shipping address so you can send me everything she deems more than enough. :)

Do the words Envy, Lust, Jealous mean anything to you. Great find - like Wayne said, there is no reason not to use some of it in a few projects.

How much is enough? You'll know when you get there. If you're asking, you're not there yet. :)

Yeah, once you've reached the "enough" stage I'll send you my address as well as some money and you can ship me the "extra." ;)

I wish i could be so lucky. Free wood!

But seriously, you can
  • make a little cash by making paint-grade TV stands from the stuff
  • line your workshop with more shelves
  • make a shoe-stand for the front closet
  • make a ramp to your van/pickup for your snowblower/snowmobile/lawnmower
  • cut the longer pieces into triangular wedges, glue into circle, trim the outer edge to a nice circle, add some proper legs, and sell it as a table
  • < insert idea here >

There's no such thing as too much… but you do have to make sure it moves its way out of the shop eventually, or you will run out of room for more free stuff!

Free wood is the best wood! It doesn't grow on trees you know! Oh wait, I guess it does.

You have "ENOUGH" when you can no longer work in your shop, because there is no room to navigate a piece of wood around anymore.

I would say you do not have enough yet Darryl, as there is still room to stack more. I like Dekker's ideas of the things you can build with it. I bet we see some projects soon.

Enough is when she gets tired of the wonderful things you're going to make for her at almost no cost, multiplied by her mother, sisters, nieces, etc. Nothing will get a spouse off yer back like of host of her sisters and family who think you're the best thing since sliced bread. :)

Start a new family tradition: re-usable Christmas and birthday gift boxes that can continue to be passed back and forth within the family for decades to come. Can even wood-burn the family "pass-along" rules on the inside of the lids.

When you can't walk in your shop because of the piles of wood, then you have enough. I'm not there yet.

You could build a bunch of bird houses and donate them to a worthy (seasonal perhaps) cause.
