Project Information
A couple of months ago my friend that I share his workshop/garage with asked if I wanted to help build a gun cabinet to hold the rifles of the Honor Guard providing support to our local Veterans Administration (VA) Cemetery's funerals. Of course I said yes and we started on the project with the understanding we needed to have it done in two weeks. Fortunately we were able to get more time since and actually finished it a few weeks ago. We just received the bus this weekend and installed it yesterday.
I cut the 6 plaques on the scroll saw taking anywhere from 4 to 6 hours per plaque while he began on the case. Made from Red Oak with a Dark Mahogany stain and Spar Urethane finish it will hold seven M1 Garand rifles along with other items like their bayonets, gloves, blanks. The lock on it is only designed to help get it from the armory to the cemetery so obviously it's meant only for transport and not to keep the rifles on the bus permanently. Unfortunately my phone's flash didn't work well with the gold lettering on the bar that holds the gun in place but it reads MAY WE NEVER FORGET ALL GAVE SOME, SOME GAVE ALL
