Project Information

A round top keepsake chest made from a 1400 lb honey locust log. The tree came from one of our parks and my friend had a hard time loading it onto his mill. After sawing, stickering and nine months later under the Idaho sun, I got some decent boards. The ends of the boards had some cracks but that okay since they are burning in my shop stove as I write.

I like honey locust, it has a nice orange and yellow color to it. The wood dries fairly well and not to bad to work with. The old padlock is a working reproduction that can be found on Amazon for around 18 dollars.

The chest idea was "borrowed" from Pete Tevonian.

Just did some work with honey locust. I like it and it smells good too. Hard and heavy though.

Beautiful chest.
