Project Information

Our family loves to read and we have tons of books. I have always wanted to build a ceiling to floor, wall to wall bookcase for this wall. There was one problem, we had a jacket closet offset near the center of the wall. Living in Florida we don't need jackets very often, so I came up with the idea of building a section of the bookcase that would open up to expose the closet. After 5 months of off and on working on the project, we finally completed it. This was my first bookcase project of any size, so I learned a tremendous amount. Every thing that we did was a learning experience. Along with my assistant, every member of our family worked to help complete the bookcases. For the record they are 12'4" long, 8'1" high, and 12" deep. The center section is the only section that is removable. We put casters on the bottom and it rolls in and out of position. Overall I am thrilled with how they turned out, but I'm more proud of the fact that it is another project our family worked on together.

filmguyjohn,
Great looking bookcase wall. I like the way you access the coat closet, no one would ever guess. I wish all my boys were close enough that we could all work together again on a project or two. They're all grown and gone now, alas. We did do may things together though and those are some fond memories. Congratulations on an excellent family project. Please congratulate all the other participants. Take care.

Sincerely,
Ken McGinnis

This really came out great. I could not even tell the removable section was on casters.

When the "evil ones" come round my front door…I'll be fighting you for the closet at your place. I'll admit it, I'm not brave…I hide in dark corners…true to every horror movie character you know won't make it to the end of the film.
