Project Information

I was able to obtain a fire sale price on a D-Box system since I was willing to build the support system. D-box is a software/hardware package that allows you to add motion to your chair(s) as it corresponds to action on the screen. For more details you can check out their site www.d-box.com

The trick was finding the center point for weight distribution. Each actuator has to have the same lift weight. If one becomes overloaded since it is working harder than the other three, within certain weight parameters, the system stop functioning.

I also did a video since one picture is worth a thousand words. Go to YouTube and search under; d-box home theater.

That's pretty cool. I've never seen one before.

I have heard of wiring the sound into the chairs for vibration, but this is new to me.

Dude, do you ever sleep? Not only do you have a lot of complicated design builds, but you have a lot of complicated design builds also. I'm happy with one post a week, but you keep turning them out. Wow!

Wuddoc,

There is no end to your creative an innovative ideas. I had never heard of one of these either. Wonderful idea but I doubt that I could handle it without a dose of Dramamine.

As always thanks for the post.

That's cool. Does it also make popcorn?

With the movies I watch it wouldn't get much activity.

Where's my dramamine? That does look kinda cool, but considering my likeliness to get car sick when I am not driving, this is one thing I better not spend my money on.

Great job though, and keep up the good work.

Thanks for the comments.

At first I thought I would have problems as boats rocking and airplanes tilting make me very queasy.

The d-box system only works when your "inside" with the actor so there is no continuous movement throughout the movie only at certain times. Let's see if I can explain.

In the Matrix Reloaded (II) motorcycle scene when you see her riding the motorcycle the platform is still but when you appear to be riding on the motorcycle with her then the platform tilts right and left.

In the Transporter (I) when he jumps over the wall the bridge and the car lands on the auto carrier the platform front goes up while the back actuators go down sharply, but this only happens during the time the film has you inside the car as a passenger. Then as the car clears the rail all four actuators are slowly moving and you feel like you are floating in the air. Sort of like jumping on a trampoline and as you are up in the air and coming down you are trying to balance yourself to land correctly and not end up bouncing off the trampoline.

You can adjust the the actuators overall movement by setting the software program from 100% down to zero. You also can control the quickness of the actuator movement by turning the volume up or down.

This is not a acoustical unit like some systems are which only vibrate on certain frequencies or a Butt-kicker system that causes the chair to bump depending on the frequency and audio volume.

amazing.
and how does it know when to do its stuff?
That would be freaky-sitting there enjoying the movie, forgetting about the special effects and then … pow you're tilting..

Oh, I love it!
What will it do in Transporter 2 when he spins the car upside down to take the bomb off the bottom of the car?
Oh, right. Nothing. You are outside at the time.
Dang. There goes the popcorn!
Russellville is about 3 hours away. Do you give tours?
