Project Information

I removed bedroom two and three's common wall after minimal soul searching.

In order too get everything in and allow for maximum screen size I cut out the wall between what was the end bedroom and the marriage wall with the family room. Since that was a structural wall I had to create a beam.

The windows naturally created a light challenge and since drapes would case audio distortion I came up with a solution my dad had used decades ago to trap light when our photo lab was in the basement of my parents home.

Very nice solution!
I'm a little concerned that you replaced one source of distortion with another though - glass instead of drapes.

Thank you.

I had the same concern as you so I visited with the company in this area that happens to do the CM Awards audio. They had several simple solutions. It is not visible but the carpeting on the floor has extra padding. There is also carpeting running up the walls equal to the top of the floor placed speakers. The center front speaker is lifted off the floor to reduce the acoustical dampening of the carpet. I also removed the glass from the poster frames and replaced it with a soft clear vinyl. The posters are also mounted on a thin layer of soft foam. This reduced considerably the audio reflection. All the walls are filled with insulation to reduce reflection.

Before putting on the carpet I went to Radio Shack and purchased their analog sound level meter and checked the before carpet and after carpet levels. The carpet works.

As an added benefit I found that I can take the meter around with me to various manufacturers when they have a noise level question and I can show them how loud a router or saw is.
