Showcase cover image for Hollowform from a Shedua board

Project Information

I had a very pretty leftover piece of Shedua lumber and couldn't quite figure what to do with it. I'm no Martyn the magnificent boxmaker, so I was left with making it a turning. The board was 8" w and 16" long. I cut it in half and used one board for the vessel and the other for the top. I was going to turn a finial, but I got lazy and had a multibrown tiger eye cabachon that matched perfectly, so I decided to use that . Sanded to 600 grit, buffed and ren wax.

It is very beautiful, Michelle! I love both the shape and the color. It really looks nice with the tiger eye. How big is it? Wonderful job!

Very creative, Michelle. I like how the straight sides emphasize the slant to the pattern as you arranged it. Turning it bowed or rounded or concave wouldn't have given the same impression. Really nice!
