This one doesn't really fall into the category of "fine furniture," but it was a project and it is made of wood, so I guess it goes here.
I wanted a holder for my increasing collection of table saw blades, since having them ratting around in a drawer isn't really good for them or an effective use of space. I had some spare, 5 mm thick hardboard pieces that I decided to use as shelves/dividers. I wanted to make sure the blades couldn't rattle around or against one another and chip their teeth. I also wanted it to be easy to pull each blade out, since I have both 10" and 6" blades, and may someday have 8" as well. I also wanted it to be easy to transport the whole kit.
I made the cabinet out of 1/2" MDO that I had left over from the mobile sawing and routing station that I built over the last several months. I glued a stub of 5/8" dowel into a 5/8" recess on each shelf, drilled partway through with a Forstner bit. The blade can fit over the dowel, and then the shelf can slide in and out of the 1/4" dados in the sides. If you saw my spice cabinet, it seems I have a thing for little slide-out shelves in dado slots. The dowel stubs on each shelf are just tall enough to contact the bottom of the shelf above, so that the blades are held in place if you turn the cabinet vertically.
