Project Information

Based on the feeding pads I use on my jointer, I came up with the idea of adding an anti-slip shelf liner strip under a pushstick to see if I could get more control over workpieces on my tablesaw. I had full control in the North/South direction, but not on the East/West, particularly to keep small workpieces tight against the rip fence.

I'm glad I tried. Now, all my pushsticks are lined. I use double-sided tape to stick the shelf liner strips, after sanding the sole of the pushsticks up to 220 grit sandpaper to get a good bound.

These pushsticks greatly increase security level since they "grab" the workpiece for more control in all directions, even backward! Since they are 6'' tall, my fingers are away from the blade as well as from the rip fence.

Note that the heels have been glued to the sole instead of having been profiled at the band saw.

I use them on my tablesaw and my router tables.

Best,

Serge

Serge, you figured this out really well! It is much more than a push stick, more like a hold-it-in-place stick.
Great idea! I'm making some tomorrow and will call them Serge sticks!

Thanks for posting!

Serge,

I have used this style push stick for over 15 years. I like it better that any other that I have used. I like the idea of the anti-slip shelf liner. Good idea.

Safety first! Another great shop accessory from Serge. I hope you've posted a measured template on your site for people to download.

In my opinion, this kind of push sticks should be discontinued or at least should be sold with a warning:

I have some of that shelf liner lying on the floor. I noticed it today and was going to toss it as too small to use…hmmmm.
