Project Information

I have finally finished my version of a Henry Greene Puzzle Table, Expanding Table, or Jupe Table depending whom you are talking with. I found a base for the table online that I liked and reproduced with a few changes. The finish woods are Mahogany and Mahogany veneers. All sub framing is white pine and Apple Ply. The biggest challenge was in cutting the pie pieces to exactly 60 degrees when my electronic protractor is only accurate to +- 1/10 of a degree. 1/10×6 pie pieces equals a little over an 1/8" gap. Finally labeled all pieces, A-F, then planed "A" to fill the gap. Table starts out at 54" and expands to 76". The Sketch Up file is located on Sketch Up's 3D warehouse. There is a lot of trial and error with the building of the table. I made a sample section out of MDF to make sure the dimensions and mechanics actually worked before cutting the Apple Ply and veneering the crotch panels.

That's very impressive and looks difficult to make. The base is amazing, what is it made from?

Beautiful table! I've always found this style of table to be fascinating and can only imagine the amount of work it takes to get it to function properly.

I don't know your skill level but at any level this is good work.
Lovely finish on it too.
