Project Information

Basement shelves for storing 5 and 6 gallon carboys (beer and wine). Shelves are made from 2×8 kiln dried D. Fir - 2 pieces glued up for 14" deep shelves dadoed into the sides and pocket hole screwed. Had to be assembled on site because of the large size. Shelf pin holes between the fixed shelves for future shelf flexibility. Couple of coats of poly on all.

Nice shelving for carboys (beer). I still do not think that you will have enough support in the middle. Great project though. Beer is good.

Nice looking shelving, but I agree with madts. Not sure how much a carboy weighs though. If it's about 6 gallons that would be roughly 48 pounds per carboy. Just my 2 cents.

Actually if you assume each carboy weighs 48# that's about 300# per shelf. With the material and dimensions used that calculates to an acceptable deflection. .008in/ft well within the acceptable limit of .02in/ft. this was not done blindly but thanks for the comments
