Project Information
I love this box. I might hold it in my recliner and rub on it all night long. I guess there are lots of things as fine as the feel of well worked wood, but not too many. I know what you're thinking. Ya got me there.
I made this from some pieces laying around the shop. Not sure where I got them, but the top is not really heavenwood… it is close though. It's some type of mahogany and it is delicious. The box is probably walnut. That's what Boxguy said. He usually knows. He's my "go to" guy for all things wooden. I have tinkered around wood all my life, but only recently have I gotten the fever. I have trouble identifying woods… there are so many varieties.
The floor/bottom is plywood with some cool looking veneer on one side. I used a homemade press and titebond glue to put it together.
Oh yes… I forgot to tell you. It originally had 6 splines on each side. Pretty cool huh? But when separating the top from the box on the tablesaw it kicked back and put a big gouge through the lid. I had to cut off about a half an inch, and that screwed up my spline spacing I removed one of them. You wouldn't have known though would you?
That's because I got lucky. I screw up every project a little, but usually I can salvage it. That's the pleasure of boxes and not working from plans. As long as it turns out in the end, everyone's happy, happy, happy.
Thanks for looking, your comments are always welcome.
