Workshop Information

United States
Well, my shop has gone through some major changes in the last 2 or 3 years, so this was due for an update…

First of all, I built a nice big storage shed in he backyard 2 summers ago (see it here: to hold the lawn tractor, lawn mower, trailer, and all the other misc. yard tools. It also stores an awful lot of random stuff, and has a large loft area for drying milled lumber, storing left over building materials, etc. As you can imagine, that freed up a LOT of shop space in the garage.

Most recently though, we added an addition above the garage this past summer. It was a long time coming, but our 3- and 11-year-old daughters have been sharing a room for 3 years now, and our new middle-schooler was getting tired of her sister messing with all her stuff. We figured if we were going to do this, we'd do it right, and add a master suite above the garage, vacating our existing bedroom for the youngest.

Although I had to completely vacate the shop during construction, and had to give up all the garage loft storage space I'd been using for 8 years, it was definitely worth it. Not only did we gain all the new living space above… I also gained a freshly drywalled shop below, courtesy of the fire code. I made sure I thoroughly insulated the shop walls too, and put R30 in the ceilling as well. I'm looking forward to working out there this winter now that the heater will actually do something more than send some heat straight up to the loft.

Anyway… I'm more-or-less moved back in now. I added some new wall cabinets with a miter saw station built-in as well.

Major Tool List:

Ridgid TS3612 Table Saw
Ridgid JP06101 6" Jointer
Delta 22-540 12" Planer
Craftsman 10" Radial Arm Saw (Emerson)
DeWalt 12" Compound Miter Saw (actually on loan from my Father)
Grizzly G1019 14" Bandsaw
Home-made Router Table, housing Craftsman "Professional" router (model #27680)
Craftsman 6×48" belt/9"disc sander
Craftsman 9" bench-top drill press
Harbor Freight 2HP Dust Collector
Craftsman 33 gal. Air Compressor

Next on my list is an outfeed table for the tablesaw. I have it more-or-less marked out with saw-horses and roller stands for now, just so I get used to the space it will eventually take up.

I like having the Computer setup out there too - very handy for googling stuff when you're in the middle of something. I also have an older TV card installed in that PC so I can watch TV out there - very handy during football season.

Anyway, here it is!
