My mother died last week . She wanted to be cremated so I decided to make her Urn. I first started by choosing the best piece of lumber I had . A burl Walnut limb I had drying into a 12''x12'' hollowed round . I then hollowed another smaller walnut bowl from the same burl with a hollowed center to accept the footing from the larger bowl . I then cut three curved cuts out of the smaller bowl on the bandsaw to look like a curved base. I then turned a quilted maple lid about 13'' wide with a 1/2'' cut out for gluing a turned walnut lid inside it. I glued them together and turned the maple and walnut lid with a flat top. For the topI turned a 8/4 quilted maple bowl and cut three sections out to match the base. I then took a walnut base cut off flattened and glued to top of maple . I then glued a gold rosary cross to the top . My mother who had six cancer operations and still lived to 83 . She could love thru all her pain. Amazing story of will , survival and love. If I could only be half of what she was. I am lucky to have been her son. For my Mom I do my best work. All this and Heaven too.
