Project Information

My first hanging wall cabinet - that isn't shop furniture. I emulated a couple different plans I found from FWW. Here's some specs:

23.5"h, 11"w, 7"d
- knotty cherry, walnut pulls, beetle kill pine for back and drawer bottoms
- federal blue milk paint with dewaxed shellac on top
- Watco Danish Oil - 3 coats
- dewaxed shellac for all interior parts
- hidden cleat in back for hanging

Plenty of firsts for me on this project, which I always like:
- first time using milk paint - I love it and plan to add color to more of my projects in the future
- first time making solid wood drawer bottoms - these drawers are small and I made the bottom thicker than it needed to be - next time I will scale it down
- first time making a bridle joint for the doors
- first time using only an oil finish - so easy to apply - we'll see how she holds up, should be alright as this will only see light touches
- first time using a gouge to carve out the finger recess for the drawer pull - now I need to learn how to sharpen them!!

Thanks for looking!

Nice work taking some risks and venturing into new things. The exterior wood looks great. I like what you did with the vertical pull on the interior drawer. Thanks for showing the layout lines and how you did that.

Really beautiful! You got all the details right. Bet if feels good to have learned all those new things. Great project. I really like the knotty cherry… Kind of inspires me. I'm so used to thinking of knotty stuff as junk, but I guess that's just not true! I have some knotty cherry in my pile of cherry, come to think of it!

You did everything right in this project. The dovetails, draws and the ever difficult inset door. Great work. Keep them coming.
