I needed a rack to house my powered chisel mortiser bits. So I used unpowered mortise chisels to chisel a rack for my powered chisel mortiser bits. Mouthful of irony. All cherry with a Paduak key. Tung finish.
It came out great. The key is a great touch. Reminds me to go hunt my wood rack for some cherry. I'm thinking of using cherry for the spoon carving class.
Thanks guys! Von, my mortiser is a simple JET tabletop. I haven't really used it, other than playing around; I wanted it for those times when I'm too lazy to hand mortise. No project has really called for it since I purchased it.
It WAS fun, Steve! Scraps, no plans, no deadlines, no expectations. Just a chest full of handtools, some glue, and some time. I needed a project like this. I probably spent 8 hours on it, 7 more than I needed to; and loved every minute of it (except waiting for the tung to dry). I loaded it up after the first coat was tacky
Bertha, you gave me the inspiration to make a caddy for the wood burning set the parts of which had been scattered everywhere. Who said an old dog can't learn new tricks?
Well some times it's good to make things the old way without a cad plan and dimensions , just build as you go and use what is on hand and I don't consider this a wast of time.
Great looking rack !
